Suva, Fiji — The Scientology Volunteer Ministers South Pacific Goodwill Tour was welcomed to the capital of Fiji with traditional dancers and more that 200 other dignitaries including the Deputy Mayor, the Deputy Director for Immigration, the Minister of Youth & Sports and the Police Commissioner.

The Deputy Mayor expressed his interest for the Scientology Goodwill Tour by saying, "The Volunteer Ministers could not have come at a better time. We are focused on improving education and the Volunteer Ministers offer a study program teaching a technology of how to study. Drugs are a growing problem here and the Volunteer Ministers have answers to helping people come off drugs. This group has the message which says: No matter how big the problem may seem, something CAN be done about it."

The Minister of Youth & Sports, spoke of his intention to take advantage of the Scientology Disaster Response Training and looked forward to having the Volunteer Ministers help in tackling Fiji's social ills.

As the celebration ended, the work of the Scientology Volunteer Ministers began. Their bright yellow tent, pitched in the United Nations Park, it was filled to capacity throughout the day. Nurses were trained on Scientology Assists, hundreds of people were toured through the tent and lectures were given based on the Scientology Handbook.

Fiji is the 2nd stop in the South Pacific Goodwill Tour, which was launched on 15 July with its Grand Opening held in Auckland, New Zealand, attended by dignitaries from the Maori and South Pacific Communities in New Zealand.

Assists are techniques developed by L. Ron Hubbard. They operate on the principle that one tends to withdraw mentally or spiritually from an injured area. Only by restoring communication with this area can one bring the spiritual element into healing, thereby greatly speeding the healing process. Assists are used to alleviate stress and physical aches and pains, or to orient a confused or distraught individual to his present environment.
